The Association was founded in 1888, that is at the same time of the enforcement of the first Swiss Paent Law.
With its professional rules and its general conditions of business, the ASPTA has an established system on which anyone can rely. A disciplinary tribunal ensures that the system is complied with, and anyone can go to the disciplinary tribunal if a member is alleged to have acted in an unprofessional manner.
The Patent Attorneys of the ASPTA are duly agreed as representatives not only before the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property in Berne, but also before the European Patent Office in Munich and are therefore subjected to the Professional Code of Conduct of the European Patent Institute (epi). The ASPTA membership thus represents a label of quality for the clients.
